LED bulbs have been around for a while now and homeowners are now accepting them into their homes in bigger numbers than before. It has also helped that the light bulbs are becoming cheaper and cheaper each day.  Home owners as well as business are also impressed by qualities of LED bulbs such as their long shelf life, efficiency and power saving capabilities. They are much better than the filament alternative we were used to several years back in every aspect.

Abandoning filament bulbs for LEDs can help you solve many problems to do with lighting in the house. Issues such as untimely blowouts can easily be solved by changing the type of bulbs you use. However, changing the light bulb shouldn’t be your only course of action. Make sure to check what issues may have caused any problems and call your Tulsa electrician if you need to.

Some reasons why your light bulbs keep blowing out;

  1. Vibration

    Filament lights are known to be very delicate worse still if you get a cheap variety. Mechanical vibrations happening over a long time can cause unexpected blowouts. The filament finally snaps, causing the blowout.

    The vibrations can originate from anywhere in the house be it sound waves, the appliances nearby or many other sources. In such a case, changing your light bulbs and using LEDs is the surest way to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

  2. Arcing electricity

    When connecting a light bulb to the holder, it should always be well-fitting. If the bottom of the bulb holder hasn’t connected with the bulb properly, the electricity is likely to arc. Arcing electricity cannot be seen by looking at the bulb. However, it does produce a lot of heat, which eventually causes the bulb to blow out, often sooner rather than later. To find out whether this is happening, take the bulb out and check the bottom. You will see pitting or dark spots at the bottom of the bulb if this is happening.

  3. Cheap bulbs

    A low-quality bulb does poorly in normal conditions. The bulb is much more likely to blow out in a not-so-ideal scenario, which would spoil a perfectly normal light bulb. Cheap bulbs have a thin filament that can’t hold up for long. When a bulb blows out, the filament breaks at the weakest point and this happens much faster for a weak filament. The only way to save yourself from such problems is to get high quality bulbs that will not fail you soon after you buy them. Ideally, these are LEDs.

  4. High voltage

High voltage damages your light bulbs in the same way arcing electricity does, due to the excess heat generated. Only a small amount of excess power is required to affect a normal light bulb and reduce its lifespan. When the voltage is too high or stays higher than normal for a long time, it can easily cause a blowout.  It is always a good idea to get an electrician to come and check for any faults in your home’s electrical grid when you suspect an overvoltage has occurred.
