Have you been wondering why your electricity bill is so high? The reason behind that is that your bill is based on the amount of electricity your appliances use and how often you use them. It is therefore important to be informed of the appliances that use the most electricity in order to manage their function;

Refrigerator

In most cases, the fridge will be the appliance that consumes the most power in order to keep all perishable items safe. It uses a significant amount of electricity because it is always on. It is important not to leave the refrigerator door open to avoid excessive consumption of energy.

Television

The television is one of the most used electrical appliances in many homes and it is usually on for many hours. This builds up a high electricity bill but that depends on the type of television you are using. The most practical way to save electricity here is to switch off the television, not leave it on standby. When buying a television, consider devices that work on LED technology because they use less energy than LCD sets and plasma screens.

Electric Oven

 When using the oven, avoid opening the door because each time you do so, it loses the accumulated energy.  To make use of the appliance’s residual heat, turn off your oven just before the end of the cooking process.

Dishwasher

The process of cleaning up dishes after a meal is very tiresome, especially if you don’t have a dishwasher. However, due to technology, most homes have a dishwasher and is run up to 3 times a day.  Dishwashers are loaded with utensils and left to clean the dishes, rinse and dry them. The machine uses a lot of electricity when heating up water for tiding up the dishware. To ensure the dishwasher doesn’t consume a lot of energy, there are helpful settings that reduce energy usage, such as washing your dishes at lower temperatures.

Kettles

If you must boil water using kettles, make sure you only boil the amount of water you need. Heating water for washing clothes and bathing uses a lot of energy, leading to increased electricity bills.

Lights

Although light bulbs are small and consume little energy, they are used a lot.  We usually overuse and forget to turn them off when not in use, which leads to increasing energy bills.  It is therefore important to remember to switch the lights off and use energy-efficient bulbs

 Air conditioner and room heater

It makes sense that these two would consume lots of energy, seeing as they are used to negate the effects of extreme temperatures.

For full control over your energy consumption, install a consumption meter. This device provides detailed information about electricity consumption each hour of every day. Should you need help with the installation of that and other pieces of electrical equipment, be sure to contact us right away.
